class

So I was in my Cherokee class last night and the instructor was pronouncing "tohitsu" which means "How are you?". The previous night he had pronounced it as "toe hee jew" but last night he was pronouncing it as "toe hee juh" so I asked a question as to the pronunciation. Apparently that was the wrong thing to ask as it was mostly ignored. I did get a short answer that went something like this: "We learned the language from our family and so pronunciation may not be standard". I'm not sure that he was directly referencing my question though. So I'm guessing I either:
  1. Offended him because he thought I was calling him out on his invalid pronunciation. (I wasn't).
  2. He doesn't like me because of my nickname "nuclearcowboy". I'm not sure if that is offensive to them.
  3. I'm just not part of the "crowd" and their culture. A lot of them know each other and I'm the outsider.
So anyway... I am glad to hear about the pronunciation because "goodbye" is "donadagohvi" which is pronounced "doh nah dah go hunh eee" and I'm going to start pronouncing it as "aww revwah" since it's easier for me. Ok... Just kidding.

I am going to pick a new nickname for the next class I sign up for as I didn't even think about it possibly being offensive. That will involve yet another email address. I have about 5 or 6 already (all with nuclearcowboy). I need a nice Southern-American name so something like Emmanuel Grouchy (last name is pronounced "Groo Shay") will not work although the actual grouchy part would work brilliantly for me. I'm thinking Louis Davout ("Lu wee Dah Vu") will work because Louis evokes thoughts of an older gentleman. I could just use Bill Allen but that's too simple.
