Since I am a child at heart (and some would say in mind also), I try to stay away from the finances as much as possible. Miranda has typically run the finances in the family because she is a bugetary wizard (actually since she's female that would technically make her a witch but we will avoid that word). I have taken Accounting I and Accounting II but my personal theory is "as long as you are within a couple hundred bucks, who cares?" This theory of mine does not hold up well in the real world. Oddly enough, I am the economist of the family but as any economist will tell you, there is a wide gulf between Economics and Personal Finance.
So I am put on an allowance and whenever I want to buy something stupid or silly, I just save up my allowance. You know, like a 15 year old kid. So for hats, electronics, music, candy,etc... that's how I buy my toys. That last sentence I just wrote there really brings the realization of how much like a child I am and I hate having to examine myself like that!
Anyway...There are a multitude of reasons that we do this but the main one is bankruptcy avoidance.
So for anyone that says: "Poor Miranda and the children, having to go without food so that evil Bill can buy toys". Pfft. Please also note that the future, Sally the Porsche 911, comes out of family finances when appropriate, and at that point feel free to bad-mouth me.
I will hold off on the hat purchase for now because the next "toy" is going to be a Garmin or Tom Tom. When we drive to San Antonio this summer, I want to have one. Aaron and Lindsay offered to loan us theirs but I don't like borrowing things (especially electronic things). Too many things can happen. Thanks for the offer though. We do appreciate it.
