So now that everyone is back to school, the same routine commences. I turn on MetOpera on my Sirius radio and guess what comes on...
"La damnation de Faust" by Berlioz.
Some things never change.
I really need to get started on my Steel Guitar Opera in Cherokee and French about the Killing of Faust. Maybe I can bring my steel guitar home. I need to practice especially if Bill Filsinger is wanting to create a CD.
Any suggested songs?
I could, of course, use a new Emmons Push/Pull with 8+8, Miranda! Miranda? Miranda? Anyone have any smelling salts? Anywho... For anyone not familiar with steel guitars (everybody?), the Emmons Pull/Pull isn't the Porsche 911 of steel guitars... It's the
Lamborghini MurciƩlago of steel guitars. It is the standard that all the others are judged against (and fall short of mostly).
Off on a short rant about my guitar. It's a nice guitar but it has one fault. It's a universal. A universal is a way of combining the two necks of the steel guitar. Typically one neck is E9 and the other is C6. E9 is country and C6 is western swing (Bob Wills, Spade Cooley) and Jazz. I play in church and so C6 is a waste for me. The universal is "supposed" to sorta give you the best of both worlds but it's just not for me. It gives you a funky sound. I don't like the sound of my guitar is what it boils down to. Now I'm not saying that a new guitar is what I need but I'm just explaining. I really dislike the sound I'm getting and I think it boils down to "not enough practice". Unfortunately we are "packed to the gills" in this house so practice is not an option.
To hear the difference between E9 and C6. Here's E9 (yes I'm posting this again... by the greatest Buddy Emmons... Emmons? Best Steel Guitar and best Steel Guitar Player. See the connection?). Here's C6 (by Buddy Emmons again). They are two distinctly different sounds and when you get used to it, you can tell immediately which is being played regardless of the song and style being played.
